Section I - Exploring the New York Stock Exchange

(Individual Work)

STEP 4:  There are 7 chapters that include

a.  text material to read

b.  test/quiz to take on-line

STEP 5:  Complete 1 chapter each day and take the test/quiz.  When you are ready to be graded on the test/quiz, ask me to watch you take the quiz on-line.  You may practice the quiz as many times as you like.  The goal is for you to understand the material.

Section II- Investment Activities (Partner Work)

STEP 4:  There are a total of six activities related to making investments and thinking about investments.  

a.  Activity #1:  "Common Sense" - Check your stock market packet for this handout.  There are seven new terms and a short 10-point on-line activity.  Read the terms and complete the online activity.  Print the activity and turn in.

b.  Activity #2:  "Going Public:  The Movie" - Check your stock market packet for this handout. Read the case study and decide what options are best for this particular company.  Using PowerPoint presentation software, lay out the "movie" with at least six or more slides, answering the questions laid out in the activity.  Print out the slide show and turn in.

c.  Activity #3:  "Interview with a Stock Broker" - Check your stock market packet for this handout.  In Part of Activity #3, you and a partner complete the matching section.  In addition, complete Part II together and turn in.

d.  Activity #4:  "Stock Prices Can Jump" - This is an on-line activity where you will need to read and follow the directions.  Please print out your results and turn in.

e.  Activity #5:  "Fair and Open For All" - Check your stock market packet for this handout. There are three case studies for you to answer.  Using a word processing package, key the answers to each case study along with your partner.  Turn in.

f.  Activity #6:  "The Stock Market Wants You" - Now it's time to begin working on our Stock Portfolio. For two weeks, you will track eight stocks.  A copy of the Wall Street Journal will be available daily in class for you to check your progress.  Also, our guest speaker will address more on this topic.  Along with your partner, fill in the names of eight companies and find their ticker symbols.  More will be covered on this topic in class discussion.  At the end of the two weeks, you may turn in your completed form.


EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY:  Write two paragraphs on the latest activities of the Securities and Exchange Commission.  HINT:  Check the earlier resources given to you.  

Type up the paragraphs.  Turn in.

Section III- Preparing for our Financial Advisor

(Individual Work)

STEP 1:  Now that you have completed both individually and with a partner many activities and readings about the stock market, what questions do you have about how it operates, how to invest, how to make (or lose) money?

Compose five questions for our financial advisor guest speaker who will be coming to class soon.  Using a word processing package, type the five questions and turn them in.  He/she will use them in their discussion with our class.


Congratulations!  You have completed all the activities for Section III:  Preparing for our Financial Advisor


Section IV- The Stock Market Game (Team Work)

STEP 1:  You will need to select three or four classmates to compose one team for The Stock Market Game.

STEP 2:  Decide upon a team name.

STEP 3:  When all team members have finished Sections I, II, and III of the WebQuest, you may request the game information packet.
