Google Earth: Sky
by Peggy

On August 22nd, Google released a new version of Google Earth and WOW - how cool is this? Now you can type in your location and then go up to View, and choose "Switch to Sky." You can see the sky above you mapped with all the stars, constellations and much, much, more! Now we can all be excellent backyard astronomers!

You can turn on the animation of the moon and planets to see their progression across the night sky. There's a layer with imagery from the Hubble Telescope. There's tons of placemarks (yes, placemarks in the sky!) with all kinds of astronomical information at your fingertips!

Download the latest version: Google Earth 4.2 (beta) for PC, Mac or Linux at http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html and head to your backyard with your family tonight - make sure your students know about it too!
