Sharing Databases
by Peggy

photoZoho Creator is a Web 2.0 database application that lets you create online databases in minutes. Build forms, collect data and manage it all from the web. It’s easy and it’s free. If you have been using Google Docs and Spreadsheets, you know that the missing piece is the database functionality. Now you can have databases, both public and private, that you can embed right into your web site! You can administer the database by adding additional views and allowing others to contribute to your data collection.

You will need to sign up for a user name and password, but once you do, you can create an unlimited number of databases to use. You can upload your data from a tab-delimited text file, so getting your database out there to share is quick and easy. And once you have collected the data, it’s easy to export it out again to create spreadsheets and other documents.

We’ve been trying out Zoho Creator for a while now, and we really like it. There are also other Web 2.0 database applications out there, but we haven’t tried them out yet. Two examples are LazyBase and Dabble DB Commons.
